Fine Tune Your Performance

by SRV Health on February 23, 2009

All of my kids have been blessed with great athletic ability. Am I their dad or what? I wish I could take more of the credit. They make for a very competitive bunch. My oldest son, now 20, hasn’t met a sport that he can’t play well. I keep thinking he’d make a great decathlete. His primary athletic focus at this time in his life is triathlons. He’s fueled by the personal challenge.

The most high-tech equipment used in a triathlon is the bike. Have you seen where bike technology is today? Usually costing in the thousands of dollars a bike will incorporate the latest in carbon fiber or aluminum technology, mechanical engineering and aerodynamics. It’s important that a bike be fitted to it’s rider. This is a technical service provided by quality bike shops and can be expensive. It is, however, necessary for the competitive distance rider. Most of us can ride several miles and not notice any difference, but unless all of the angles, distances and heights are measured to the rider’s anatomy and style of riding, any small inconsistancy can become a painful mechanical distraction and severly impair the performance of a competitive racer. It amounts to fine-tuning and matching man or woman to machine.

For this same reasoning my son has his spine tuned prior to training and competing. Even minor fixations and instabilities of the spine that would normally be asymtomatic become distracting and a hinderance to performance after many miles in the saddle. Like a tiny stone in lodged in the shoe of a distance runner, small problems tend to multiply with continued effort.

It is the job of the chiropractor to fine-tune the spine through specific adjustments to the vertebrae. Many chiropractors are skilled in adjustive procedures to the extremities as well. Elite athletes demand chiropractic care to compete at a high level. Many college and professional teams have team chiropractors because the athletes insist on it. They recognize the edge chiropractic treatment gives . The same edge can be had by competitors at any level. It is a natural, drugless approach that complements the training and preparation programs of top athletes and weekend warriors alike.
