Should you get the flu shot?
It’s that time of year again, where the leaves are starting to turn, the breeze is getting cooler and every hospital, pharmacy, doctor’s office and even the news media are promoting the flu vaccination.
Many patients of mine ask me about this flu shot and whether or not it is something they should worry about. I believe that the better informed you are, the better decision you can make on your health.
Here are some of the facts about this vaccination that one should consider.
- The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts what strand of the influenza virus will be attacking the general population several months in advance before it arrives.
- It is impossible for the prediction to take in all accounts of mutations of strands that occur as it passes through the affected public.
- The actual vaccination contains a dead virus strand along with mercury which has negative effects on the body.
- Last year the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) found that only 3%-14% who were vaccinated were actually protected against the flu.
Since the vaccination was originally intended for those with compromised immune systems, I believe that an average healthy individual does not need to be vaccinated with a dead virus along with other substances including mercury to only have a slight chance of avoiding the flu. Strengthening the immune system naturally would probably be better effective and a whole lot safer.
