Do you have frozen shoulder syndrome?
When I went to Radiance Day Spa in Livermore today, I met a lady who told me about her shoulder pain. She told me how over the course of a few days without any specific injury or cause, she began to notice her shoulder having pain. After a week passed she noticed that not only was the pain getting worse, but she was unable to lift her arm up. This scenario is not that uncommon especially in women. This is something known as FROZEN SHOULDER SYNDROME.
In the medical world, frozen shoulder syndrome is actually called Adhesive Capsulitis. The actual cause is not for certain but this syndrome involves the tissues in the shoulder joint sticking together causing the immobilization of the joint. This type of condition is found more commonly in people who may have some type of autoimmune disorder such as thyroid problems, diabetes, heart conditions and other autoimmune disorders.
In my practice, I have dealt with several cases of frozen shoulder syndrome and have found that the most common complaint with patients is that they are not only unable to move their shoulder effectively but, they are unable to sleep comfortable because of their shoulder pain.
Fortunately, this condition can be resolved through therapy and manipulation of the shoulder joint. The most effective treatment I have given to patients with this condition is a series of shoulder mobilization techniques, myofascial and trigger point therapy to break up the adhesions, range of motion exercises and electrical stimulation therapy. All of these techniques combined have shown the best results in clearing up this painful condition.
